Bruce Vilanch is coming to Mahwah for a one-night stand-up comedy gig, Ramapo College announced this week. The College’s Berrie Center released the following information about the event:

Multi Emmy AwardWinner Bruce Vilanch brings his hysterical standup act to the Berrie Center for Performing and Visual Arts at Ramapo College of New Jersey on Saturday, April 27, at 8 p.m.

Vilanch has been the head writer for the past 23 Academy Award ceremonies. Bruce Vilanch has also written for hosts such as David Letterman, Billy Crystal, and James Franco. Additionally, he has written for Bette Midler, Cher, Robin Williams, Diana Ross and Star Wars Jedis. Roger Ebert praised Bruce Vilanch as being  “a foil, a collaborator, a dueling partner, [and] a lateral thinker,” who helps stars and hosts move in the direction they want to go.

Audiences may recognize Bruce Vilanch for his years on television’s Hollywood Squares with Whoopi Goldberg and for his Broadway run as “Edna Turnblad” in the smash hit “Hairspray.” Vilanch has also been featured in the TV-movie “It Nearly Wasn’t Christmas” and the documentary “Get Bruce!

On the Nov. 9 installment of the ABC show Shark Tank, out comedian/actor/writer Bruce Vilanch and openly gay entrepreneur David Cox, founder of “The MAC Guru” and “PC Classes Online,” will appear, according to a press release.
Cox was chosen from more than 30,000 potential contestants for the show, often called the “American Idol of Business.” He splits his time running both businesses between Provincetown, MA and Key West, FL with his husband, Allen Gallant.

One of Vilanch’s most recent endeavors is guest-starring in Scrooge & Marley, a locally filmed gay take on A Christmas Carol. The film, which Judith Light will narrate, will premiere at Chicago’s Music Box Theatre Nov. 29.

Richard DreyfussLance BassBruce Vilanch and Annette O’Toole will be part of a Nov. 19 San Diego reading of Academy Award-winning “Milk” screenwriter Dustin Lance Black’s stage drama 8, chronicling California’s anti-gay marriage legislation Prop 8.an Diego City councilman Todd Gloria, Steve Gunderson, Ryan Rottman and Lisa Sanders.

A talkback with Black and San Diego mayor Jerry Sanders will follow the performance.

8, which premiered on Broadway in 2011 with an all-star cast, utilizes the original transcripts from the 2010 Perry v. Schwarzenegger case, which sought to overturn the 2008 voter-approved Prop. 8 legislation that denied same-sex couples the right to marry. The trial ultimately led to a California federal judge’s ruling that Prop. 8 was unconstitutional and unfairly discriminated against homosexuals.

8 continues to roll out in productions across the country, at colleges, universities and theatre organizations. The American Foundation for Equal Rights (AFER) and Broadway Impact administer the rights to 8, which is licensed royalty free.

Entertainers Bruce Vilanch and Allee Willis, two of the quirkiest, most prolific creative talents on the planet will take the stage at the Avalon Hollywood Tuesday November 13, 2012 for an evening of love, laughter and libation to benefit the programs and initiatives of PAWS/LA. Special guest and fellow quipster Wendy Liebman will open the show.
