Oscar forecast

Bruce Vilanch, whom I love, has been head joke writer for the Oscars, weighs more than an Escalade, dresses like a vagrant and has long blond hair like Cate Blanchett. He says of the coming Academy Awards: “Good movies, but it’ll be tough on laughs, skimpy on parties and stingy on booze.”

Billed as “the music of Tchaikovsky with klezmer-Broadway fusion styling,” the show features eight tales based on Jewish resilience throughout history, from Judah Maccabee until modern times. Along the way, 20 original songs and a lot of Yiddish slang make for a uniquely schmaltzy experience. Read More
